"Hey, Houston, Columbus and Lexington...Gimme The Mike!"
Gimme The Mike I, II, III, IV
KPRC-TV Channel 2 Houston over the past 2 years has held four open calls for local singers in the Houston area to compete in a contest called "Gimme The Mike!" to determine the best vocalist in Houston. Over 650 potential contestants showed up for the individual auditions! The only requirements were that the contestants had to be 16 years of age or older and never have had a recording contract.
From that talented original group of 650+, producers Pat Schwab and Jeff Jeandheur of KPRC had the daunting task of somehow narrowing down the field to 25 contestants and 3 alternates and then producing the show with Chris Wragge (show I and II) and Dominique Sachse (show III and IV) as hosts.
It was my true pleasure to have been asked to serve as music director and to provide the background tracks for each contestant for the original 4 rounds and the tracks for the finals.
In addition, we were pleased to also do the Gimme The Mike tracks for ABC-6 / FOX-28 in Columbus, Ohio and "Pass The Mike" tracks for WDKY-Fox 56 in Lexington, Kentucky.
All of the tracks were sequenced with the addition of live guitarists...primarily Tommy Peters, and also Mike Sunjka of Houston.
